The problem as I see it is that consumers are too quick to say yes to these programs. Do this in a consistent manner and you will have a record of every extended warranty offer you have turned down. All you have to do is turn down an extended warranty every time it is offered to you and stuff that money you would have wasted into a savings account. Even with the pathetic interest rates seen at today’s banks you will soon have thousands of dollars built up. If you are a risk taker stuff it into stocks. I seriously suggest to people to take all that money they are wasting on warranties and put it into savings. In fact extended warranties for the most part are ways to rip off the consumer. If you add up the cost of the various extended warranties being offered these days you will quickly realize that it just doesn’t make economic sense for most people.

On the other hand if the machine isn’t critical and you have ongoing income, the odds are in your favor, especially with desktop hardware. Even with business it might be better to have a good backup plan/machine. Similarly if you are a one man show running your own business a slip up in computer availability can really damage your business. The reason I say this is that Apples rather good extended warranties can save your butt if you are in school without an ongoing income. The exceptions in my mind are cell phones and business / school critical machines. Generally paying for an extended warranty is a bad thing. This subreddit is not endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc.
